Try painting with acrylics to make these fun spring craft projects.
Painting wooden shapes to make them look 3-dimensional is easier than you think! Kids will get the hang of it easily. If you make a mistake, just wait until the paint's dry, and paint over it.
You'll Need
Wooden cut-outs. We used a tulip and a butterfly mirror, but you can use any spring shapes you like - other flower shapes, the sun, insects or birds.
Acrylic paints and brush.
Sandpaper.
How to Paint Your Spring Cut-Out
Rub the edges of the cut-out with sndpaper to make them smooth. Dust the sawdust off.
Paint the surface in bold colors, trying to keep one color to each area. Don't forget to paint the edges as well. You may need two coats to get good coverage.
Have a look at the photo beow to get the idea.
Once the paint is dry, choose a brighter color to paint over the top. For the red tulip, paint yellow in a line in the center of each petal. Now, while the yellow paint is wet, paint red around the edges. With your brush, gradually mix some of the yellow with some of the red to make orange in between. Try to make the petals change gradually from red ar their edges, through orange, to yellow at their center. Look at the top picture to see how it should turn out. Don't be scared to experiment - once you get the knack, this is great fun!
Now paint light green in the center of the tulip's leaves and use the same technique to make them look 3D.
Once the paint is dry, hang your tulip on the wall or give it as a cheerful spring gift.

You could paint up some letters spelling out your name and stick them on your bedroom door.
Think of other spring craft projects to make using the same technique. How about painting butterflies, dragonflies and beetles and making them into a mobile?
Make a flower gift basket for someone. Place your tulip in it and add fresh or dried flowers, and chocolates, baking or easter eggs, depending on the occasion. Wrap it in cellophane. You could even give this as a Valentines day flower gift.
