Pencil Flowers

pencil flowers

Self-adhesive foam is wonderful for making these pencil flowers. This project is quick and simple and suits kids of all ages. Younger children will need help from adults.

You'll Need

  • A pencil
  • Sheets of self-adhesive craft foam
  • Scissors
  • Now Make Your Flowers

    1. Cut out flower shapes in two different sizes, from different colored craft foam. Cut a small circle for the centre. Peel and stick them together.
    2. Peel off the backing of the large flower and place the flower on the table, sticky side up. Fold the backing paper in half and cut a small circle about the size of the end of the pencil from its center. Now replace the backing paper onto the flower.
    3. Stick the flower to the pencil by its sticky center.
    4. Cut thin strips of green foam and use them to cover the stem as in the picture. Then cut small leaves and stick them around the base of the stem.

    5. Make different types of flowers - tulips, sunflowers, geraniums, pansies, daffodils, poppies - using craft foam.

You could make a butterfly or grasshopper to sit on your flowers. How about a spider?

Make a bouquet of pencil flowers, tie it with ribbon and cellophane, and give it as a spring gift.
