To Make this Christmas Tree Craft, You'll Need

  • Walnuts
  • Nutcracker
  • Silver acrylic paint
  • White craft glue
  • Silver glitter
  • Thin silver cord
  • Sticky tape
  • Paint brush
  • Make Your Christmas Ornament

    1. Carefully crack the walnuts so that they separate into two unbroken halves (an adult will need to do this), and remove the nuts. Keep the pairs of shell together.
    2. Cut a 20cm piece of silver cord, fold it into a loop, and tie an overhand knot. You may need to help your kids with this. Glue the two halves of the walnut shell together, with the knotted end of the cord between them at one end of the walnut shell. Wrap a piece of sticky tape around the walnut shell, to hold it together until the glue has dried.
    3. Repeat for the other walnut shells.
    4. Kids can paint the walnut shells silver, and let them dry.
    5. Mix some white glue with a little water to thin it. Paint this onto the walnut shells, and then dip them into a bowl of silver glitter. Allow to dry.

Let your kids hang their walnut shell Christmas ornaments on the Christmas tree.

You could paint these gold, or red instead. You could even use glow-in-the dark paint!

You could glue sequins or craft jewels onto your ornaments.

Or cut stars or flowers from thick card, attach a loop of cord, and paint them in the same way.

    Think of your own ideas.
