Looking for creative crafts for kids to do in autumn? Try these. They look beautiful hanging in your window, especially when to sun shines through them.
You'll need:
Black construction paper
Wax paper
Crayons in several bright colours
Autumn leaves. (Choose small ones with interesting shapes)
A pencil sharpener, knife or scissors
An iron
Newspaper
Sticky tape
What to do:
Spread some newspaper in a thick layer on the table. Lay a piece of wax paper, waxy side up, on top.
Arrange some leaves on the wax paper, leaving space around the edges.
Use the pencil sharpener or open scissors (or an adult can use a knife) to make shavings from the crayons. Drop shavings of different colours on and around your leaves. Patches of colour work best. Three colours is enough for one picture.
Lay a second piece of wax paper, waxy side down, on top of the first.
Lay several sheets of newspaper on top to protect your iron, and iron over it with a moderate heat. Press with the iron, don't rub. Lift the paper and check often to make sure that you don't iron it too much. The wax should just melt and stick the wax paper sheets together, and the crayons colours should run into each other slightly. Leave to cool and set. Trim the edges to make them even.
Cut a frame out of black construction paper to suit the size of your picture. Tape the picture onto the back of it.
Decorate your window with your own 'stained glass' leaf picture.
Make frames for these in various shapes - heart, star, leaf. Think of your own ideas.
Make a mobile out of unframed, trimmed 'stained glass' pictures, perhaps each with a single leaf in them.
Try putting paper cut-outs of your own design between the wax paper instead of leaves.
