Collage Pictures

collage pictures - snail

Make collage pictures. Take a simple snail like the one above, and use your imagination to create its world.

Below, I'll show you how...

Kids love doing this and it really stimulates their imaginations. You'll be amazed at what they come up with. Later in life, the lateral-thinking skills they develop will be invaluable.

What You'll Need

  • Thin cardboard
  • White craft glue
  • Paper, pictures, photos
  • Natural objects, buttons, sequins, plastic eyes, sting, wool, ribbon and anything else you can think of.
  • Make Your Collage

  • Place your pictures and objects on top of the cardboard and move them around until you get an interesting, fun or amusing picture. Think of something different: For example, what could the snail above be crawling on? Perhaps you could cut out a magazine picture for the background, or make one from the objects you have.

    The snail could crawl:

  • up the side of a skyscraper
  • along a tightrope
  • onto a flower
  • away from a huge bird
  • after it's mother
  • off the road to avoid a truck
  • Any of these would make a good picture and some are amusing!

  • Now glue on the background, then the 3D objects in the forground. Allow to dry.

  • Now you know how to collage, have fun with it! Kids and adults working together will give each other tons of ideas.

  • You could make your collage picture into a card for someone. Think of a funny caption or greeting to add to it.

Make a photo collage of someone you know in an unusual setting. This can sometimes give hilarious results. (But be kind!)

Make a collage featuring another creature: A caterpillar made from a row of buttons; an acorn with a face on it; a lion with a felt face and mane of yellow wool. Think of your own ideas.

Make a paper collage and incorporate origami creatures. Or create a picture collage using magazine pictures.
