Have fun with collage making. This card features a butterfly which is attached to the inside, but which shows on the outside. When you open and shut the card slightly, it flaps its wings.
For Your Collage Card, You'll Need
Thin pale yellow cardboard
Gluestick or paper glue
Craft or scrapbooking paper with flower designs and large leaf designs.
Small piece of bright yellow cardboard
Tissue paper in red, white, dark and light green, and yellow
Scissors
Pencil
Now Make a Collage
Fold the pale yellow cardboard in two to make a card.
Cut a square just smaller than the front of the card, using the leaf-patterned paper. If the leaf patterns aren't big enough, you may need to cut them out individually and overlap them. Be imaginative. Glue the square onto the front of your card.
Cut a butterfly shape from the bright yellow card. look at the picture above to get the right shape. Cut circles from the red tissue paper and glue them onto its wings. Now cut smaller circles from the white tissue and glue them over the top of the red circles.
Draw a leaf-shape on the leafy background where you want your butterfly to sit. It should be longer than your butterfly, and just wider than it. Carefully cut it out, keeping the cut-out piece for the next step. Make sure your butterfly will fit through the hole.
Close your card and glue the leaf-shaped piece (that you cut out) through the hole and onto the inside of your card. (Like putting in the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle to complete the leaf picture). Now fold the butterfly's wings up and glue its body onto the leaf shape as in the picture above.
Cut out some paper flowers and glue them on to complete the front of the card.
Open your card and complete the picture inside by adding tissue paper leaves and cut-out flowers, as below. Write a short message inside.
To close the card again, thread the butterfly through the opening.
Think of yor own collage ideas. You could have a dragonfly on your card instead. How about a bird?
Or make an origami creature to pop through the front of the card.
Experiment with different backgrounds. A volcano? A desert? Think up your own ideas and have fun collage making.
