Christmas Tree Bird Decorations
What you'll need:
Walnut shells
Red construction paper
Gold acrylic paint
White craft glue
Fine gold cord or ribbon
Gold star-shaped sequins
Pencil
Wavy-cut scissors
Hole punch
What to do:
Draw birds on the red construction paper. Look at the photo for the shape.
Cut around them with the wavy-cut scissors. (Depending on your child, you may need to do this, but let your child do the punching, painting and gluing.)
Punch a hole at the top and tie on a loop of gold cord.
Paint the walnut shells gold. Your preschooler will enjoy this. Allow to dry.
Glue a walnut shell onto either side of your bird.
Glue gold stars on, and draw an eye on either side. Allow glue to dry.
Your preschoolers have made their own lovely decorations! Let them hang their birds on the Christmas tree.
You could make other shapes too. Stars would look good with gold walnut shells in their centres and sequins around them.
Try different colours, such as blue paper with silver, or green with red.
