A Butterfly Made from Flowers!
A butterfly made out of lots of flowers! Children will love to make this for a bedroom wall.
You'll need:
A piece of thick white card about 50 x 50cm
Artificial flower leis - about 8, including 3 colours of flowers. (These can be bought cheaply from craft shops.)
Strong craft glue
2 black chenille sticks
Hole punch
String
Pencil, strong scissors
What to do
Draw a large butterfly on the piece of card. Make the wings touch the edges of the card, and give it a fat body. Cut it out
Punch a hole at either side of the butterfly about one third of the way down from the top. Tie a string between them, to hang it on the wall by.
Take the leis apart, or chop the stems off the artificial flowers. Sort the flowers into colours.
Draw spots or patterns on the butterfly's wings. Keep them bold and simple. Remember that each wing of a butterfly is a mirror image of the other.
Glue flowers of one colour onto the wing spots. Place the flowers close together, so that the cardboard is not visible between them. Use a different colour for the area between the spots. Use a third colour for the body. Completely cover the butterfly in flowers.
Make curly feelers out of the chenille sticks, and tape them onto the back of the cardboard, so that they stick up from the butterfly's head.
Hang your flower butterfly on the wall and enjoy the feeling of springtime!
You could make a large flower covered in small flowers to go with your butterfly.
Think of other things you could stick onto a large shape to decorate it. How about twists of crepe paper? Or felt circles?
You could decorate a picture frame or mirror frame using these ideas.
